Vanishing Point (1971, dir: by Richard C. Sarafian) is THE ultimate car chase movie, and it’s not really about cars. Barry Newman stars as Kowalski, who works for a car delivery service and is to deliver a 1970 Dodge Challenger in San Fransisco, California. He takes a bet to deliver the car in San.Fran. in less than 15 hours (from Colorado) – and that’s where the fun begins.
I’m not going to spoil the fun if you haven’t seen it, so here’s the trailer and a couple of pictures from the movie. There’s a blind DJ/ghost voice, gay hitchikers, a naked woman riding a bike (epic!) and lots of excellent car chase scenes.
I’m lucky to have a good friend that is so full of knowledge, references, history and trivia about almost every movie there is. I still haven’t been able to find a movie, an actor, a director or fill-in-the-blanks that he’s not aware of or has a strong opinion about.
Grufull – I just want to say thank you for sharing your endless pool of movie geekage. You have made my favourite hobby even better. And thank you for all the magical movie moments! <3
Here’s Grufull and me in a really internal movie joke (did you get it? )
